World Salsa Challenge
Many of the former and current World Salsa Champions will be competing and challenging the rest of the world’s Professional dancers at the 10 Annual San Francisco International salsa Congress, Competitors already invited
CATEGORIES:
Amateur– No money has been earned by either member of the partnership and have been dancing for less than 2 years.
Amateur Teams – Student teams and non-pro teams are encouraged to compete.
Pro Rising Star(semi-pro) – Sporting category: For the couples that have won 1st place in previous Dance Competitions but are not professional. Couples in this division can compete at this level for an indefinite period of time as long as they maintain this status.
Pro-Am – A Profesional dancing with a student amateur (Professional team members are not allowed to dance as amateur in this division)
Professional – All timings and styles will be represented in one competition for the professional level competitor.
Rules for couples competing at the SF World Salsa Challenge :
1.No more than 3 over head lifts are allowed. Over head left is considered as, when one partner lifts his/her feet pass shoulder level assisted by the other partner or any move over head level with a release of hands
2.No more than 3 (8counts) of spinning in place will be allowed
3.Music may be modified but 90 % should be recognizable salsa music.
Professional Teams –Highest level, director may dance with team any thing goes
FEES AND PRIZES:
Entry fees:
couples: $75 + Congress fee
teams : $125 + congress fee
Prizes: $10,000 in cash, trophies and prizes (including DVDs, dance shoes, t-shirts, and passes for
supporting congresses for amateur competitors)
QUALIFYING DATES and TIMES for Bay Area Qualifer:
PRE-CONGRESS, for couples in all categories only. All teams will be able to qualify Sunday at the
Congress:
September 16 – Hot Salsa Friday
September 30 – Hot Salsa Friday
October 7 – Hot Salsa Friday
October 21 – Hot Salsa Friday @ new location D’Venue 1282 White Oaks Rd, Campbell, CA 95008
November 4 – Semi-Finals: 3 couples per category will be selected to represent their division Sunday

DURING THE SF INTERNATIONAL SALSA CONGRESS:
Sunday, November 20th, 2011
10am – Registration begins for all categories
5pm –Semifinals- International/Out of state – all categories.
8:30pm – Amateur Finals, Amateur teams Finals, Pro-AM Finals, performances
11 pm – Professional Finals, Professional Team Finals, Salsa/Mambo Challenge by Johnny Vazquez and Marco Ferrigno,performances
GENERAL RULES & PROCEDURES
- Per respective category, all couples will be introduced and dance on the floor together for a warm up, 1.5 minutes to music at DJ’s choice.
- Couples will then perform solo their choreographed routine to music of their choice, not to exceed 2 minutes. Your music will be stopped if it goes over the 2 minute mark.
- Performance Order Of Competitors Will Be Determined by Lotto.
- All Competitors need to be registered between 10am and 3pm on the afternoon of the Preliminary Rounds.
- All dancers need to be present to draw a number. If you or your partner are not present you will be disqualified.
- Each couple must be backstage 45 minutes prior to Show Time. Example: 8:30pm showtime, backstage by 7:45pm, dressed in costume ready to go. NO exceptions!
- Please bring 2 cd’s with your routine music being the ONLY track.
